Directions to Carlsbad Caverns National Park

Carlsbad Caverns National Park is at Carlsbad, New Mexico, well, actually it’s closer to White’s City but is called Carlsbad Caverns National Park because it’s the nearest large town or city, about 20 miles away. Need something a little more specific? Okay, I’ll give you a few directions on how you can get there.

There’s only one entrance road to Carlsbad Caverns National Park, it’s the New Mexico Hwy 7 which is north from US Hwy 62/180 (look on the map ->) at Whites City, around 20 miles to the southwest of Carlsbad, or 145 miles to the northeast of El Paso in Texas, depending on which direction you are traveling.

The Carlsbad Caverns National Park gate is at Whites Center, and around 7 beautiful miles further along the road you’ll come to the cavern entrance and the Visitor Center.

Traveling to Carlsbad Caverns National Park by Bus

Both Greyhound and TNM&O bus lines run services to Carlsbad, a mere 20 miles away.

Flying to Carlsbad Caverns National Park

You can fly to Carlsbad with New Mexico Airlines from Albuquerque (304 miles away). Other airlines offer services to Roswell, Albuquerque in New Mexico, El Paso, Midland and Lubbock in Texas. From the airport at Carlsbad you can either hire a rental car or jump into a taxi.

Before we start again I just wanna’ make it clear that these are distances if you’re driving, not as the crow flies, because realistically most people do drive to Carlsbad Caverns, very few people fly like crows.

Amarillo is around 329 miles away
Dallas is a distance of 500 miles from the park
Denver is around 626 miles from Carlsbad Caverns
El Paso is a mere 151 miles – just down the road then
Las Cruces is almost a 200 mile drive, 197 to be precise
Lubbock is approximately 206 miles from the park
Midland is a distance of 194 miles
Odessa is 174 miles from Carlsbad Caverns National Park
Phoenix is a 581 mile drive
Roswell is only 103 miles
San Antonio is 461 driving miles from the park
So there you have it!
