Dry Tortugas National Park is a cluster of seven islands, around 70 miles west of Key West. If you’ve a taste for adventure then the Dry Tortugas National Park will certainly fire up your imagination with countless stories of sunken gold hidden by cut-throat pirates, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. The Dry Tortugas actually have a history of military importance too, their safe harbor offering an invaluable staging post for many of the military ships poised during the build up of the Spanish-American war.

A visit to Dry Tortugas National Park is, therefore, many things. The waters offer cultural resources and coral reefs surrounding the islands which are bursting with marine and bird life, not to mention around 200 shipwrecks to explore. The sea can get a little rough in the winter time (December through March), and tropical storms are likely around June through to November which can either give way to calm seas and hot humid weather, or alternatively see some severe weather. The best idea is to check out the forecast before you go.
