Shenandoah National Park is only 75 miles from the nation’s capital, but you wouldn’t believe it. Driving along the Skyline Drive there are more than 75 places to stop, look, admire the view – photo opportunities galore. In 2011 Shenandoah National Park is celebrating it’s 75th anniversary. Hmmm, do you notice a pattern here, everything seems to be 75. Not everything, there are more than 500 miles of trails, many of which lead to panoramic vistas, cascading waterfalls or quiet woods – this really is a terrific place to visit. Some of the trails are easily accessible from Skyline Drive and are perfect for an easy stroll, some of them, however, are for the more intrepid hiker and penetrate deep into the wilderness. Something for everyone you see.

Shenandoah National Park isn’t just a place to drive, walk, stand and look, there’s so much more to it than that. There’s a rich cultural history for you to discover too, as well as thousands of living creatures, animals, birds and plants. It’s usually cooler up the mountains than it is in the valleys below, with snow and ice regular winter visitors, and summer downpours often calling in unexpectedly. Wear plenty of layers of clothing and be prepared for anything.

What did you think of that? Good eh?

You’re in for a real treat . . .
