Canyonlands National Park is actually made up of four rather distinct districts, carved up by the Colorado River along with its many tributaries. There’s the:
- Island in the Sky
- Needles
- Maze
- Rivers themselves
Whereas they’re not that different in that they all have a desert atmosphere, they each do have their own characters offering unique opportunities to explore.
Canyonlands National Park has a fascinating desert ecosystem, so needless to say it gets pretty hot in the summer months. The small amount of rain generally falls in the early Spring or late in the summer, but do be prepared for baking hot temperatures with sun hats, sunscreen, sun glasses and plenty of water to drink.
Certainly worth getting out of bed early for you, don’t you agree? It’s like burning gold . . .
