Cuyahoga Valley National Park is close to Cleveland and Akron, but it’s also worlds apart. 2011 has been declared as the International Year of Forests, and Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a fantastic example where you can find out all about conservation, sustainable forest management and development – or alternatively just relax and enjoy your wonderful surroundings. The main trail through Cuyahoga Valley National Park is the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail – yes, it runs alongside the canal, but check before you go because it’s a bit prone to flooding and does occasionally have to close, however, if it’s open it makes a brilliant starting point for your adventure in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, connecting with lots of other trails and places of interest.
If you fancy seeing Cuyahoga Valley National Park from a different angle, and at a different speed, why not take advatnage of a nostalgic train ride through the heart of the park. Again, check that it’s running before you go . . . The park has four distinct seasons as far as weather is concerned – winters are cold with a chance of snow, spring is warm and wet, summer is hot with the chance of thunderstorms and during the fall the evenings get quite cool. Sound like a weather-forecaster don’t I? Anyway, the bottom line is, be prepared for whatever the weather might throw at you.
