Isle Royale National Park can only be reached by sea-plane or boat, but that seems to make this inaccessible and primitive wilderness all the more appealing. Visitors flock to Isle Royale National Park to hike along its many trails, paddle up it’s inland waterways, explore the rugged coast or brave the shipwrecks along the shores.
Isle Royale National Park is situated on Lake Superior, where the water seldom raises above 52 degrees Fahrenheit, so that gives you some idea of the type of temperatures you can expect. The extreme winter means that this park actually closes for a few months each year – from November 1 until April 16 – which is to protect the wildlife and the visitors too. Even during the open season you can expect fierce thunderstorms, high winds and waves, although the departures to and from Isle Royale National Park are seldom delayed.
How d’ya like that then? Great isn’t it?
I just love Silver Birch – they’re so recognizable for starters, but they just look so . . . different don’t they? I love ’em.
It can seem so cruel and disturbing, but in nature, it really is survival of the fittest . . . To see the wolves swim like that after the moose is one of the most amazing things I’ve seen in a long time, but I’m glad that they got away aren’t you?
